USS Sheffield

From Bravo Fleet

The USS Sheffield is a Federation Grissom-class starship assigned to Starfleet's Fourth Fleet within Task Force 17. Commanded by Captain Frederich Meyer with Commander Rina Parker as the first officer, the Sheffield serves as one of Starfleet’s latest platforms dedicated to space mapping and exploration. As part of Task Force 17, the Sheffield undertakes detailed cartographic surveys, contributing critical data to Starfleet Cartography. Its primary mission involves mapping celestial objects, gravitational fields, subspace anomalies, and other navigational elements to enhance warp route planning in the remote regions patrolled by Task Force 17. Survey data is promptly relayed to Deep Space 17 for analysis and integration. The Sheffield also supports other vessels on scientific research and exploration missions as needed.

Crew of the Sheffield

  • Captain Frederich Meyer: A human male in his mid-sixties, Captain Meyer has harbored a lifelong passion for exploration, though years of experience have tempered his initial spark; he occasionally feels as though he has "seen it all." Known as a by-the-book officer, Meyer executes his duties with meticulous efficiency. However, his adherence to regulations can make him resistant to bending the rules or acting without explicit directives from the Task Force Commander or Deputy, which he prefers to rely on for guidance.
  • Commander Rina Parker: A human female in her late twenties, Commander Parker has quickly risen through the ranks in Starfleet Security, driven by her eagerness for action and a willingness to bend the rules when necessary. Recently promoted, she views her assignment on the Sheffield less as a career advancement and more as an unexpected detour—if not a punishment. Despite her initial disappointment, Parker is determined to make the most of her role and prove her capability, even in an assignment that feels far from her ideal.

In Play

  • The Sheffield is a Task Unit Asset, and any member of Task Force 17 can feature it in their stories.
  • The Sheffield is a perfect mission-starter. Her limited shuttles and resources make her just right for encountering an anomaly first and then calling in another ship for a deeper investigation.
  • She may be a vessel that requires an escort when traveling to remote areas or between starbases and outposts.
  • While the Sheffield is fairly well-armed for a survey vessel, she can still be easily outgunned and may need rescue in high-risk situations.
  • The Sheffield can be used like any other task unit asset, showing up to resupply or deliver officers, or mentioned off-screen by dealing with distant problems or discovering the initial plot hook that your ship is sent to deal with.
