Nereus System

From Bravo Fleet
Federation Faction

The Nereus System is located inside Federation space, near the borders of the Talarian Republic and Tholian Assembly, although more adjacent to the prior. Located in orbit of the third planet in this star system, is Starbase 415.

Overview

The Nereus Star System was discovered by a Starfleet patrol vessel in the year 2355 during the small skirmishes with the Talarian Republic. There were plans to build an outpost as a strategic frontline against the Talarian Republic due to their hostilities, but that was soon disregarded since the Talarian Republic's military technology was vastly inferior to Starfleet. After the skirmishes ended in 2357, there was yet another approach to build an outpost in the Nereus Star System, which was yet denied once again, so as to not cause an alarm to the Talarians. The other reason for the denial of constructing a station was to not alarm the Tholian Assembly as well.

Around September 2400, the proposal to build a station in Nereus Star System was brought up once more, which was finally approved and construction began in November 2400 around the third planet, Nereus III. During the construction, Starfleet had been approached by the Tholian Assembly and Talarian Republic about the construction of the station, to which they were both brought at ease that the station was being built solely for a diplomatic outreach to both factions and its secondary mission is nothing more than scientific and research purposes. By February 2401, the construction of the station had finished and was designated as Starbase 415.

The system consists of six planets, and an asteroid belt between the fifth and sixth planet.
