USS Sirius
The USS Sirius (NCC-80002) is an Odyssey-class starship assigned to the Fourth Fleet under the command of Commodore Matt Rourke and the flagship of Sirius Squadron. As the lead ship of a rapid response formation, the Sirius is equipped to serve as a multi-mission vessel. She is regularly dispatched to emerging situations where the mission profile may include multiple unknowns or is expected to change quickly or unpredictably. Her versatile systems, extensive scientific laboratories, and vast range of auxiliary craft render her flexible to manage tactical, exploratory, and humanitarian operations across the galaxy, particularly when these mission profiles blend. Most notable among these auxiliary craft is the embarked Aquarius-class escort USS Alhabor, which allows the Sirius's missions to cover extensive territory, and provides reconnaissance and tactical support. The Sirius also acts as a mobile base of operations for the rest of the squadron, providing resources, supplies, and command-and-control facilities when the unit is on deployment.
Design and Layout
The Sirius is a prime example of the design of a post-Dominion War explorer. Beyond even the ship's extensive facilities, her fixtures and appearance all evoke the height of Starfleet prestige, comfort, and luxury. Burgundy carpets and gold-hued fixtures project the height of the Federation's era of outreach and exploration. This puts her at odds with the common designs of 25th-century ships, which have pivoted towards a more utilitarian and spartan appearance, but it positions the Sirius effectively as the hub of the unit's diplomatic and humanitarian operations.
Due to the extent of the Sirius's systems, the size of her crew, and the multi-faceted nature of many of her missions, her bridge is considerably larger than that of most ships. Beyond the standard stations, the bridge has wide desk panels, one on either end, for science and operations teams of up to six officers. This allows multiple experts to monitor ongoing situations, collaborate on key information, and provide broader relevant information to the commanding officer. Behind the trio of central command chairs is the tactical arch, beyond which standalone vertical panels allow security and tactical officers to monitor shipboard combat operations or away team movements and conditions. Doors to the conference room stand at the rear of the bridge, while the CO and XO's offices can be accessed at either side of the room.
