The USS Proteus (NCC-97402), an Echelon-class light cruiser, stands as a beacon of resilience and dedication under the command of Captain Elara Quinn. Commissioned in 2398, this versatile starship is an integral asset to Task Force 17's Lakota Squadron. Based out of Deep Space 17 near the enigmatic Typhon Expanse, Proteus is equipped for a variety of crucial missions, including rapid response operations, engineering support, and humanitarian aid.

Following the tragic Frontier Day massacre, which claimed the lives of many of her seasoned crew members, Proteus is now largely manned by young and eager personnel determined to honor their predecessors' legacy. These fresh faces bring a spirit of renewal and commitment to the ship's vital duties, forging a path of hope and recovery in the aftermath of loss. With Captain Quinn's experienced leadership guiding them, the Proteus crew embodies the Starfleet ideals of courage, unity, and service to the greater good.

Mission Objectives

One of Starfleet's newest and most impressive starships, Proteus adds significant capabilities to the squadron. Whether it is logistical support or rapid response to a wide variety of humanitarian and engineering assignments, she is also no slouch when it comes to protecting Starfleet and Federation assets across the quadrant. Mission objectives Proteus can expect to conduct include:

• Deliver emergency medical aid and supplies to disaster-stricken colonies.
• Evacuate civilians from hazardous zones following natural disasters or attacks.
• Assist in the repair and maintenance, routine or otherwise, of starships, space stations and starbases.
• Facilitate the construction and enhancement of planetary infrastructure, including power grids and communication networks.
• Transport essential cargo, personnel, and equipment between key Federation outposts.
• Coordinate supply chain operations for deep space missions.
• Patrol and safeguard strategic Federation borders and installations.
• Engage and neutralize potential threats to Federation security, including pirate activities and hostile incursions.
• Escort convoys and protect diplomatic missions within contested regions.

Historical Data Records

Frontier Day Debacle

For much of the last few years, Lakota had been under construction, overseen by Andorian Captain Kosev Thiren. As construction came to an end, Thiren had been replaced by a Human, Captain Lorraine Thorn, who oversaw the final stage of construction and was at the helm when the newly constructed Excelsior II-class starship took part in the momentous Frontier Day celebrations. When the Jupiter Signal hit the fleet at Earth, Lakota crew succumbed to the Borg assimilation process. Dozens of the ship's officers were killed, including Captain Thorn herself. Lakota herself received considerable damage and, once the signal was reversed, what was left of her crew guided the ship to Avalon Fleet Yards for repairs. At the conclusion of the repairs process, Fleet Captain Keziah Nazir was ordered to assume command and form the new Lakota Squadron as part of the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 17.
