Commodore Py’Tellan is the current commanding officer of Deep Space 17. Advancing through the science division, she has served on a wide variety of Starfleet installations and starships throughout her thirty-year career. Py’Tellan has previously commanded the science vessel USS Tabora on a five-year mission of exploration beyond the Typhon Expanse. A resulting deep familiarity with the region of space known as the Typhon Frontier, its peculiarities and inhabitants, led to Starfleet tapping her for command of the newly constructed Canopus-class station.

History

Early Life (2339 - 2357)

Py'Tellan was born in 2339 on Tyrellia, to her mother, father, and older brother.

Starfleet Academy (2357 - 2361)

Py'Tellan wasn't accepted into Starfleet Academy until her third attempt. Py'Tellan began the academy at the age of 18 in the year 2357. During her time at the academy, she would excel at her command, scientific, and diplomatic studies. However, she would primarily focus on her scientific studies and the psychological fields.

Early Starfleet Career (2361 - 2374)

Upon graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2361, Py'Tellan was assigned to the USS Vermont as a Relief Flight Control Officer with the rank of ensign. Three years later she would become an astrophysicist and receive a promotion to lieutenant junior grade. In 2367, she was reassigned to the USS Virginia as the Head of Astrophysics and received a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant.

Py'Tellan would serve in this role for the next four years before being elevated to the position of Assistant Chief Science Officer and receiving a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander for the next four years she would serve in this position. She would then be reassigned to the USS Tehran as the new chief science officer and the ship's second officer. She would serve in this position for the next two years before finally switching from the science division to the command division.

First Officer (2374 - 2386)

USS Thran (2374 - 2386)

In 2373, Py'Tellan would be promoted to the rank of Commander and would be assigned as the ship’s new executive officer. She would serve for the next twelve years before finally receiving her first command.

Command (2386 - 2400)

USS Baghdad (2386 - 2395)

After nearly thirty years of service, the newly promoted Captain Py'Tellan was placed in charge of the USS Baghdad. She would command the ship for nine years and oversee nearly eighty-plus successful missions. Before being reassigned command to the USS Tabora.

USS Tabora (2395 - 2400)

In 2395, Captain Py'Tellan would be placed in command of the USS Tabora, and be given the directive to conduct a five-year mission to explore beyond the Typhon Expanse. Her expertise with the Typhon Frontier led to her being promoted once more to the rank of Commodore and becoming the commander of the newly constructed Canopus-class station, Deep Space 17.

Flag Officer (2400 - Present)

Deep Space 17 (2400 - Present)

Upon finishing construction, Commodore Py'Tellan was reassigned to command Task Force 17's new headquarters, Deep Space 17.

Personality

Py'Tellan, is an extremely talented scientist, one whom any Starfleet officer can depend upon to come up with a solution to any scientific problem she comes across. Py'Tellan has heard a call to the stars since she was a little girl. She has impressed her superiors throughout her career.

She is most certainly not a stuffy desk warrior; she’s friendly and likes to mingle with the crew and residents as much as possible. You’re just as likely to find her in the station's forum or strolling between the shops and restaurants on the promenade as in her office or in Station Operations. She tries to make herself as approachable as possible but has absolutely no tolerance for hypocrisy, laziness, or reckless behavior from her subordinates.

Commodore Py'Tellan In Play

  • Commodore Py'Tellan is a Task Force 17 NPC, you are free to use her in your own fiction writing or if your game (RPG) visits Deep Space 17 during a mission. The information here is meant as a guide for folks to use this character consistently across different stories, but feel free to take some liberties with her exact characterization. Her rank, position, gender, species, and other mundane details shouldn’t be changed. Also, don’t kill her; that wouldn’t be nice.
  • Py'Tellan is a level-headed command officer with a keen scientific sense. She is not a desk warrior and enjoys mingling with the crew and residents. You’re more likely to find her in the arboretum or strolling on the promenade as in her office or in Station Operations. So, even as an Ensign or Lieutenant, you might meet the head honcho herself, while just out and about rather than formally reporting in. She prefers to try and make herself as approachable as possible but has no tolerance for hypocrisy, laziness, or reckless behavior.
  • As the commodore of a starbase, Py'Tellan has a lot of staff around her to handle the day-to-day operations, but she’s still someone who you might interact with if running missions on a runabout off of the starbase to get your orders and instructions. As someone who enjoys talking to people, it’s not unusual for her to personally be in Station Operations to answer docking requests. The starships in the area that don’t report to Task Force 17 (i.e. your basic border patrol ships, utility ships, and science vessels) report to her.
