Below are more details around the command crew of the USS Columbia.

Commanding Officer, Captain Romen Corbin

Romen Corbin is a distinguished Starfleet captain, who has been in the centre chair for almost over a decade.

Personality

Although initially trained as a counsellor, he transitioned to the command track early in his career. Corbin is a highly skilled and professional individual who holds his crew to the highest standards. He is a well-rounded officer with exceptional diplomatic abilities. His also known to have some obsessions, this includes ensuring that every room he enters he inspects it to ensure it is kept clean and that everyone serving is looking smart and presentable. He is known to send anyone back to their quarters to get themselves sorted if they are not looking the "part."

He takes great pride in being a father to two children, both of whom are currently in their early 20s and undergoing training to become esteemed Starfleet officers. He is known to boast about them and their accomplishments. Corbin's wife, who holds a prominent position as the head of one of Betazed's distinguished houses, resides on Betazed. When she visits, he goes over the top in providing the VIP treatment to her and the rest of their family.

Recent Events

Corbin's last command was the USS Shackleton (NCC-79321), which he commanded for one year while the ship was in the Delta Quadrant. In 2400, Starfleet offered him the Columbia. Though he once served on a Sovereign-class explorer and an Obena-class ship, he has never commanded a ship as big as the Columbia.

During Frontier Day, Corbin was home on Betazed while the ship was undergoing minor maintenance at Starbase Bravo. As a result, Corbin and the crew of the Columbia avoided some of the disaster inflicted on other Starfleet ships.

Corbin In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would he be interacting with every single member of his crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use him in your stories as long as you do not alter his personality or history—or kill him.
  • Though Corbin is keen on keeping the Columbia as tidy as possible and being one of the finest ships in the fleet, he does care deeply for his crew. Being a father of two twenty year olds, he is keen for those who have joined his crew as junior officers to progress well.

Executive Officer, Commander Elizabeth Nelson

Elizabeth "Liz" Nelson is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Executive Officer on the USS Columbia. She originally trained as an engineer before she joined the command division.

Personality

At first glance, Liz appears to be a friendly and polite person while also having a wicked sense of humour. She enjoys new adventures and challenges and is known to come out with phrases like 'such fun' or 'this is delightful'. She is, in reality, an extremely ruthless officer who does not hesitate to put anyone down in a blunt manner if they have done something wrong. Her sarcasm is well-known among the crew, especially when someone tries to teach her something new that is technical. Being a former engineer, and one of the best in the fleet, she regularly keeps up with the latest research and application of technology. Elizabeth is a very intelligent woman.

Elizabeth is an old Academy friend of Captain Corbin, and the two have known each other for a very long time. They are godparents to each other's children and would do anything to protect each other. He refers to her as Liz while she calls him Rome in private.

She has many interests, including cooking, playing poker and riding horses. Alongside this, she has a vast collection of paintings and sculptures. A keen musician, when off duty, she is normally found in Ten Forward playing the piano or saxophone.

Recent Events

Like Corbin, her son has just joined Starfleet Academy, a fact she is very proud of (she does not gush about it as much as Corbin).

Elizabeth was with Romen on Betazed during Frontier Day, and is keen to ensure that a repeat of what happens does not happen again. She is very weary of new crewmembers.

Nelson In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Nelson be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use her in your stories as long as you do not alter her personality or history—or kill her.
  • Elizabeth is known as 'Number One' by Corbin - she keeps him with both feet on the floor. She has no issues in socialising with the crew, but always keeps the professional boundary up with those that serve under her. As an Ensign you may struggle to build a firm relationship with her.

Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Alkos Kudege

Alkos Kudege is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Second Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer on the USS Columbia.

Personality

Unlike many Bajorans, Alkos is not very religious and very much considers the Prophets to be the ‘worm-hole aliens’. He grew up on DS9 and was the son of several of the Bajoran officers stationed there. Due to his interactions with Starfleet there, he decided to join from a young age. He is an outgoing and relaxed individual who relies on facts and data that are presented to him.

During his time on the Columbia, he struck up close friendships with the crewmembers in Cetacean ops.

He likes to mingle with the crew as much as possible and is often found in Ten Forward, the holodeck running various detective holonovels and is no stranger to the Lower Deck social space. He has a love of almost all forms of music, though is not a gifted singer. He is often found humming, very out-of-tune songs as he walks around the ship and works.

Recent Events

He was on board the Columbia overseeing maintenance at Starbase Bravo during the events of Frontier Day. He was alone in the bowels of the ship crawling through Jeffrey Tubes when the signal was sent. As such he didn't have many interactions with the crew during this time but he was able to override part of the Borg control and successfully locked many of the younger crew in isolated parts of the ship.

Alkos In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Alkos be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use him in your stories as long as you do not alter his personality or history—or kill him.
  • Alkos has no issue socialising with the crew and is often considered by many to have a soft-touch approach to his role.

Chief Security & Tactical Officer, Lieutenant Niro Seth-Rowal

Niro Seth-Rowal is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Third Officer and Chief Security & Tactical Officer on the USS Columbia.

Personality

Unlikely the few Deltans in Starfleet, Niro had no interest in science and found that he excelled at security and tactics. He is very professional with his duties but is a relatively quiet individual who keeps to himself in part due to his telepathic abilities. As with all Deltans in Starfleet, he has taken the ‘Oath of Celibacy’ for the duration of his service, including shore leave, and takes it very seriously.

He enjoys cooking and rock climbing. As such, during his off-duty hours, he is often found in the Arboretum enjoying the greenery and working in the hydroponic gardens. One of the few places where he will happily intact with the crew is in hydroponics where is will do into great depth on the receipts he has tried and the special ingredients he is growing.

He is very protective of his personal space and has been known to be very short with crew members who touch him.

Recent Events

Recently posted to the USS Columbia following his promotion to Lieutenant, he is excited to take on the role of Chief Security and Tactical Officer onboard a Galaxy-class vessel. Prior to his posting, and during the incident of Frontier Day, he was on leave and returned to Delta to visit family. Upon leaving, he had to retake the ‘Oath of Celibacy’.

Upon his posting, he was quick to implement the new security procedures to counter the changeling threat and conducts regular and very detailed security sweeps to ensure the Columbia is clear.

Niro In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Niro be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use him in your stories as long as you do not alter his personality or history—or kill him.
  • Niro is often found in the security office when not manning the tactical station during key events. When giving orders or interacting with crew he maintains a socially acceptable distance as he is aware of the risk his species poses to others.
  • His behaviour often comes across as very abrupt and cold to junior staff.

Chief Medical Officer, Commander Carrillion

Carrillion is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer on the USS Columbia. Carrillion is adored by many on the ship due to her fun nature and great bedside manner she has. Carrillion is one of the finest doctors in the fleet and has won the Carrington Award more than once.

Personality

Carrillion is someone who gets on with everyone. She is always smiling and is pleased to see anyone. She normally calls her patients or loved ones "sweetie" or "honey". If it's not that then she is normally reciting the phrase "I'm a Doctor not a...".

During her off time, the doctor enjoys listening to many forms of opera, including Klingon. If Carrillion isn't participating in some research over subspace with fellow doctors, then she is normally found enjoying a Jane Eyre-style holonovel. If these do not interest her, then she is normally in the gym practising mok'bara or fencing with the captain or Commander Nelson.

Many of the junior officers consider Doctor Carrillion to be like a mother figure as she is always willing to provide advice, support or just share in a witty joke. Carrillion is an avid chocolate lover and can sometimes be found in Ten Forward sharing a bowl of chocolate ice cream with the captain, or if she has pulled several shifts in sickbay, then she will usually be getting herself a hot chocolate with real Thalian chocolate. Chocolate is her Achilles' heel!

Recent Events

Carrillion has been on the Columbia for some time now, and loves her posting. However, the Borg uprise on Frontier Day did disturb her. She was able to use a range of gases to knock out those junior officers infected trying to overtake sickbay. She was one of many doctors who were asked to participate in the research to remove the Borg infections from junior officers.

Carrillion In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Carrillion be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use her in your stories as long as you do not alter her personality or history—or kill her.
  • Carrillion is normally found in sickbay; she is someone who certainly believes in encouraging the next generation to learn everything there is about science. She normally tests young nurses and doctors in training to see what they know and will extend their thinking over treatment either through questioning or recommending they read an article.
  • Carrillion enjoys spending time with anyone on the crew while in Ten Forward, however if she is in deep thought or reading an interesting article with a chocolate dessert near to her, the crew have learnt to leave her be.

Chief Counsellor, Lieutenant Commander Merrindis

Merrindis is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Chief Counsellor on the USS Columbia. Merrindis can have a very direct approach when providing counselling services to those who need the support. Alongside this, she normally sits besides the captain and provides him with advice on a diplomatic exchange.

Personality

Though blunt and straightforward, Merrindis does not mince her words with the crew. She tells them how it is, and sometimes her verbal splash of cold water is quite effective. She has a very playful side and is normally found teasing someone on the crew when she is not in a counselling session. Merrindis does speak in a soft tone, which some may take as a sign of weakness; however, when she needs to project her voice, it comes as a shock to those who know her.

Merrindis has a passion for dancing, as such she is normally seen performing a little number while walking along the corridor. She is a keen musician and singer too. She also enjoys spending time singing with those in Cetacean Ops.

Recent Events

The Columbia is Merrindis' second assignment since graduating from Starfleet Academy. She has risen through the ranks, and since becoming a lieutenant commander a few years ago, she is now considering the bridge officer's test. This urge feels even more important now as she was on the bridge during the Borg uprise on Frontier Day. Her quick moves ensured she was successful with others in defending the bridge from those who had been infected.

Merrindis In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Merrindis be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use her in your stories as long as you do not alter her personality or history—or kill her.
  • Merrindis is normally found in her counsellor's office and she is open to everyone seeing her (or organising one of her other counsellors to see them). If you attend one of her sessions, be expected that at least one of them will include either her singing, her dancing or her getting your character to do one of these things as a way to start the session.

Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Commander Velesa

Velesa is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Chief Science Officer on the USS Columbia.

Personality

Velesa is, as with many Denobulans, incredibly outgoing, talkative and friendly. She possesses an incredibly curious mind which has been the driving force behind her career in science. She is keen on having her junior officers explore their hunches when it comes to scientific questions and curiosities but is also quick to clamp down on studies that are getting out of hand. She has learned over the years that the professional boundaries and distance needed between a Chief Science Officer and the rest of the team are critical for success.

Unlike most Denobulans, she only has a single husband who resides on Denobula. When pushed about this, she will brush it off and say she hasn’t found Mr Right number two or three yet.

Though her education and degrees are in physics and warp theory, she enjoys the calm found in the arboretum but is often present in Ten Forward and other lounges when social events are taking place. She has often been described as talkative and will often speak in depth about any topic people care to discuss.

Recent Events

She was previously stationed at the Avalon Fleet Yards as part of a particle physics research team. After a couple of years there she grew restless and wanted to get explore other areas of research. As such she put in for a transfer to the USS Columbia as her Chief Science Officer.

She was in the process of packing up her life in Sato City during the event of Frontier Day.

Velesa In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Velesa be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use her in your stories as long as you do not alter her personality or history—or kill her.
  • As with most Denobulans, she is very protective of her personal space and does not appreciate being touched.
  • Velesa is very supportive and mentoring of her research team but is very aware that her friendly nature conflicts with the need for professional distance. She strives to keep professional boundaries in place but happily socializes with the crew.

Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Stefanie Ortega

Stefanie is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Chief Engineer on the USS Columbia.

Personality

Stef often found that people disregarded her due to her diminutive stature, as a result, her personality filled that gap. She proved herself a very talented engineer early on in her career and expects perfection from her team to ensure that the Columbia is in top shape at all times.

She is rumoured to have faced down two Nausicaan pirates while on an away mission through her sheer force of will though the truth of the story is that her ‘force or will’ was a phaser and two security officers. This, along with her high expectations of her team, overbearing personality, frequent cursing in Klingon and her love of fresh Gagh has resulted in many crew being a little wary of her. She is happy to perpetuate this as it

During her off hours she is often found in Ten Forward and in discussion with Commander Nelson due to their shared passion for engineering or training in the holodeck with a Bat'leth. She is convinced that she will be able to defeat her mother-in-law in a sparring if she trains more often. She is also known to work on side projects where she tries to develop new tools and systems for the ship.

Recent Events

She has recently returned to the USS Columbia after taking two years' leave to raise her daughter, Omassa, split between Earth and Qu’nos with her Klingon husband. She hopes to have them move to the ship where he can continue his work as a holonovelist.

During the events of Frontier Day, she was in transit back to Columbia from Qu’nos and avoided the chaos of the day. Though she believes the current Borg threat has been defeated she does not believe the new changeling threat is over.

Stefanie In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would Stefanie be interacting with every single member of the crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use her in your stories as long as you do not alter her personality or history—or kill her.
  • Stefanie is considered to be tough and uncompromising on her team,  a hard-ass. She expects her engineering team to operate at the highest degree of professionalism and skill. That said she trusts their work unless it is clear there has been an error made.

Chief Flight Control Officer, Lieutenant (JG) Starok

Starok is the Chief Flight Control Officer of the USS Columbia. He is a very serious officer.

Personality

Starok is like most Vulcans, very logical and almost appearing without any emotions. He is an excellent pilot, has several degrees in a range of sciences and is known to be found not only just at the helm of the ship or behind the controls of a shuttle but also in a lab doing some sort of research.

He enjoys playing kal-toh, 3D chess and the Vulcan lute. If he isn't doing one of these in any of the crew lounges, then he is found in the ship's gymnasium keeping himself fit. He is a keen athlete and swimmer.

Though he does not take any pleasure from it, he is normally the first one to counter back in ruining a joke or a happy moment. He always finds the logic in every situation and is someone who can talk about one particular subject for a very long time.

Recent Events

Starok joined Captain Corbin from the Shackleton, after impressing him with his piloting abilities when the ship was in the Delta Quadrant. During Frontier Day, Starok was with Counsellor Merrindis during the uprise on the ship.

Starok In-Play

  • As a NPC, rarely would he be interacting with every single member of his crew. As a fleet-level NPC, you may use him in your stories as long as you do not alter his personality or history—or kill him.
  • If you ever want to learn how to fly, then Starok is always pleased to provide piloting lessons to anyone on the crew. Or if you wish to play against him in a game of Kal-toh or 3D chess, he is your man! Or if you fancy a workout buddy, again, he will be content to join you in exercising.
